The present paper deals with a process developed for lignite adsorption that can be used to prevent the hard scale formation during distillation of NH3 and CO2, recover Cu, Ni and Cr from dilute solutions, recover Cu and NH3 from waste effluent containing SO4(2-) radicals, separate Cu(NH3)4(2+) and AsO4(3-) from ammoniacal solutions and recover Cu, Ni and Co from ore pulps. In addition to the study of the adsorption of Me, NH3 and CO2 on lignite, adsorption on humic acid groups (which were prepared by the treatment of lignite with caustic soda) was also investigated. Changes of the functional groups of humic acid and its salt, before and after the adsorption, were examined by infrared absorption analysis.
