Study of the Influence of Organizational, Entrepreneurial, and Environmental Factors on the Growth and Development of Technology-Based Start Up Firms

By studying high-technology ventures during their crucial startup and formative years, it is expected that a more refined set of policies for innovation and economic development can be developed to better address actual problems faced by high-technology ventures. The report focuses on semiconductor ventures, addressing the following key issues: entrepreneurial characteristics including the founding team's technical and managerial education, industry and managerial experience, and joint work experience; variations in financial ownership, including R&D partnership, institutional venture capital, investments by individuals, and equity contributions by other firms with entrepreneur-as-owner financing; organizational characteristics including innovativeness of the technology comprehensiveness of the business planning, and structural characteristics; environmental variables including number of competitors, size of market, and health of semiconductor economy.
