Combined Stairwell and Elevator Use During Building Evacuation.

摘要

Interest in better understanding of occupant evacuation in buildings is certainly not new. This paper uses the National Institutes of Standards and Technology's (NIST) Egress Estimator software to examine the impact of using both elevators and stairs together in an egress system. The important design parameters for stairs and elevators are examined separately. A method of combining the modeling results for the stairs and elevators to determine an optimal fraction of the population that should be using each system is presented.
