United States Marital Status Life Tables for Periods 1910-1975 and Cohorts Born 1888-1945

The report contains marital status life tables for the United States, separately for males and females, every five years from 1910 to 1975, and for cohorts born every five years from 1888 to 1945. These tables were calculated using a FORTRAN program similar to one appearing in Schoen and Urton (1979), except that values for ages 30-34 through 80-84 were calculated by the 'mean duration at transfer' method (Schoen, 1979). Each marital status life table follows the experience of a birth cohort of 100,000 persons of the same sex as they are subjected to age-marital-status-specific rates of death, marriage, widowhood, and divorce. The age categories employed were single years through age 29, five years for ages 30-34 through 80-84, and 85+.
