Development of Enzyme Products for Enhancing Biological Sludge Dewatering

摘要

Dewatering waste activated sludges reduces the cost of subsequent sludge treatment and disposal operations. A major impediment to effective dewatering by various mechanical devices is the ability of waste activated sludge to hold copious quantities of bound water. The objective of the research was to isolate microbes capable of reducing the high viscosity often present in biological sludges, probably due to excessive water-imbibing polysaccharides. The main result of the research is confirmation of the hypothesis that microbial species can be isolated and shown to be active in reducing viscosity, a measure of dewaterability.
