Using Air-Flotation and Filtration Removal of Color, THM (Trihalomethane) Precursors and Giardia Cysts

Three different types of innovative air-flotation and filtration systems suitable for removal of color and Giardia cysts are introduced and illustrated. The data from Pittsfield, MA and Rome, NY shows that over 95.5% of color and 99.5% of Giardia cyst-size particles (5 to 8 microns) can be efficiently removed by the newly developed dissolved air flotation and filtration systems. Additionally, 100% of filter backwash water can be recycled to the plant's inlet for reproduction of potable water. The effluent quality always meets the Water Quality Goals established by the New York State Department of Health.
