Research on Chlorination of Swimming Pool Water

A question in the chlorination of swimming pool water is the choice of measurement method. Either redox potential or free chlorine measurement is used in addition to pH measurement. Titrations of filtered water samples from swimming halls having different types of filter systems were made. A recommendation based on these titrations is made. A control effort using the multivariate control concept for the control of the chlorination is made. This control is compared to a conventional control configuration by making test runs. The multivariate control concept did not give any improvements to the control. On the other hand, predictors combined to the chlorine controller in the conventional control configuration improve the control response because of the long time delay in the pool chemicalization. The use of predictor algorithms is studied by simulation only.
