Formaldehyde Contents in Swedish Chipboard: A Comparison between Different Laboratories

On an initiative of the Wilhelm-Klauditz-Institut (WKI) a round robin test concerning formaldehyde content in Swedish chipboard was made. Participants in the test were Wilhelm-Klauditz-Institut and Statens provningsanstalt, Casco and the producer laboratories. The perforator values were determined according to EN 120 using both iodometric and photometric analysis. For photometric analysis a very good correlation was obtained between the laboratories. The coefficient of correlation (r) was 0.95 to 0.98. For the iodometric analysis the correlation was not as pronounced (r = 0.57 - 0.80). The photometric values were found to be 50-60% of the iodometric values.
