摘要

Rating schedules have been used by the Federal government to evaluate the education and experience of applicants for many decades. These procedures continue to play an important role in personnel selection for the Federal government. However, past research on the global type of rating schedule procedures most frequently used in the Federal government has yielded low validities of limited practical value. Therefore, research was needed to identify those components of the Federal government's rating schedule procedures which are useful for personnel selection. The purpose of the present study is to review research literature on the validity of specific education and experience measures that are common to traditional rating schedule procedures used by the Federal government. One variable, extracurricular activities, that is not often used in traditional rating schedules is also studied. The validity of each measure is discussed and recommendations for rating schedule use are presented.
