The Tri-City Industrial Disposal site, located in Bullitt County near Brooks, Kentucky, has been added to the National Priorities List (NPL) by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The site, a landfill, occupies 12 acres and includes one, and possibly two, residences constructed on the filled area. For purposes of the Preliminary Health Assessment, the on-site area is considered to include two residences. Results of a Site Investigation, conducted in 1986 as part of the NPL site nomination protocol, and two follow-up studies have identified heavy metals and volatile and semivolatile organic compounds in the wastes, soils (surface and subsurface), sediment, and groundwater. Additional information is needed to evaluate more fully releases, migration, contaminant levels at points of potential human exposure.
