摘要

The case study of Wisconsin's Rustic Road Program is a detailed description of one of the nation's most established state-maintained scenic byways program. Established in 1973, the Rustic Roads Program includes fifty-seven county, town, and municipal roads, varying in length from one to twenty-six miles and ranging in character from single-lane unimproved roadbed to two-lane paved county highway. The Rustic Road case study consists of six sections and 7 appendixes. Section 1 is an administrative history of the Rustic Roads Program. Section 2 identifies the costs of the Rustic Road Program. Sections 3 and 4 identify the benefits and disadvantages of participation in the Rustic Roads Program. Section 5 explains the contributions of the Rustic Road Program in protecting the natural, historic and/or agricultural integrity of the road and its immediate surroundings. Section 6 catalogues both the positive and negative attributes of Wisconsin's fifty-seven Rustic Roads.
