Report on Prior Investigative Research on Integration of Autonomous Control (G2:Group for Autonomous Integrated Control). IMS International Cooperative Research Program

The Intelligent Manufacturing Systems (IMS) program was initiated bymanufacturing industries of the world to conduct research on policies for the prosperity of the industry in 21st century, concentrating in terms of the most basic technology for the industries, which is manufacturing technology. The areas of investigative research of this group include concept and architecture of autonomous controlled machines, and concept and architecture that integrate autonomous controlled machines to systems. This study discusses the IMS concept from an 'image of future production system' perspective, presents a discussion on trends in key technologies including next generation manufacturing systems, machine processing systems, robot system, distribution systems, and system descriptive language. Other chapters include a discussion of globalization, a technology map, tasks for the technologies to be developed and R&D theme by international cooperative research.
