Economic and Financial Analysis of Residential Photovoltaics Systems: The Impact of Solar Photovoltaics on Utilities. Final Report

Hourly load data from El Paso Electric and Boston Edison are subjected to preliminary examination by comparison with simulated photovoltaic array output. Three utility production costing and reliability models are compared: SYSGEN, SIMSTOR, and GENCOST. All simulations suggest that photovoltaic penetration will: (1) result in economically significant fuel savings; (2) result in small reductions in capacity requirements; and (3) result in total savings that are likely to exceed the costs of photovoltaic systems by the late 1980s. The value of savings per MW of photovoltaics diminishes with increased penetration. (ERA citation 07:046266)
