Severe Slugging in Two-Phase Flow Systems

A review of performed experimental and theoretical work concerning terrain-induced slug flow is presented. The dynamic two-phase flow model, OLGA, is described in some details. The mass and momentum conservation equations for each phase, on finite difference form, are solved numerically, using an implicit integration in time. Slip effects due to the different local velocity profiles or mass distributions in the two phases, are incorporated. The energy equations have been omitted, and temperature-profiles are specified through the input. There are at present three material property packages available: black oil, kerosene-nitrogen and water-nitrogen. Comparison of results from OLGA calculations with experimental data are presented, as well as predictions for a planned experiment to be performed in a high pressure, large diameter two-phase loop completed in Trondheim, Norway. 21 drawings, 3 tables.
