摘要

Results of full-scale fire tests to quantify the smoke and toxic gas hazards of several bulkhead finish materials are presented. The tests were carried out on board the U.S. Coast Guard research vessel ALBERT E. WATTS. The fire condition was simulated by burning propane in one of the staterooms, which was lined with the test panels. No other combustibles were present. The smoke-density and the concentrations of several toxic gases were measured in the corridor. The results indicate that the ranking of the bulkhead finish materials according to their production of smoke using small-scale tests (NFPA 258-1976) have only a poor coorelation with the ranking of these same materials in full-scale shipboard fire tests. It is concluded that full-scale tests may be of bulkhead finish materials. The report outlines work performed during Phase I of a multiphased work effort to quantify smoke and toxic gas hazards of materials used in staterooms aboard ships.
