摘要

The wake transition of blunt cones in hypersonic flight was studied experimentally using two schlieren mountings, one with horizontal edges, the other with vertical edges, and a laser beam opto-electronic system in a 5 to 200 mm Hg pressure range and a 4000 to 5500 m/s speed range. The results obtained show measured transition distances 30% higher than those previously predicted by Waldbusser and Wilson criteria at mean pressures. However, at very low pressures, transitions were obtained at distances twice those predicted by these criteria. The Reynolds number range for laminar and turbulent wakes was also determined.
