A numerical method based on the A.M.O. Smith technique has been developed for the calculation of the two-dimensional potential flow about an aerofoil of arbitrary shape undergoing small amplitude simple harmonic motions. Problems considered include aerofoils oscillating in pitch, aerofoils oscillating in heave, aerofoils in harmonic travelling gusts and control surface oscillations. Comparison with analytic solutions, where available, is good.nSignificant differences between linear and non-linear theory are shown especially for the in-phase hinge moment coefficients.
