THE USE OF A PROGRAMMED COMPUTER TO PERFORM TEAL-TIME COMPANDING OF HIGH-QUALITY SOUND SIGNALS

A small computer has been used to process digital sound signals in real time under the control of a stored program. This has permitted the execution of the process¬ing involved in six companding systems, which are currently under examination for possible use in national and international transmission networks. Thus the subjective performances of the compandors could be compared, and investigation of the effect of changing parameters was simplified.
