The Indentation of an Elastic Layer by a Rigid Stamp under Conditions of Complete Adhesion

The indentation of an elastic layer by a rigid stamp is treated under conditions of complete adhesion beneath the stamp, where the ratio of the half-width of the contact region and the thickness of the layer is assumed to be small. The cases of a flat stamp and a polynomial shaped one are considered successively and two applications are treated.
