摘要

Several measurement campaigns carried out in the course of the last few years in the Po River plain, using a Lidar and a kite balloon resulted in the stablishment of a relationship between the thickness of the stable layers and the time elapsed since sunset. This made it possible to develop a forecasting model giving the vertical temperature distribution from sunset to dawn. In particular, this model makes it possible to forecast dawn temperature distributions; this in turn made it possible to check models for the development of mixed convective layers. Carson's model proved to correspond most closely to the experimental data, even at a coastal site where the erosion of the stable layer before a sea breeze arises was studied.
