By employing techniques of very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) to the Global Positioning System (GPS), and using as receivers the Satellite Emission Range Inferred Earth Surveying (SERIES) system at the extremes of a baseline (one of these extremes being a known geodetic point), the coordinates of the other extreme are determined, the distance between them is calculated with very good accuracy, and the clock offsets are determined. In this way, the need of intermediary stations in the transport of geodetic coordinates for long distances is eliminated. The solution applies a stochastic sequential technique of optimal estimation. For test purposes, satellite orbits and observations carried out by the stations are simulated in a digital computer. The performance of the estimation procedure is analyzed in terms of accuracy, convergence and statistical consistency, by comparison of estimated and real results.
