A vacuum apparatus for the pressure range between 10 to the minus 8th and minus 9th power mbar was constructed and tested. The apparatus is equipped with a cold surface (20 K) for a GaAs FET amplifier (whose noise level decreases nonlinearly with decreasing temperature) planned for the Cooler-Synchrotron COSY. The vacuum components (pump, measuring equipment, gate, feedthroughs) are described. The components of the cold surface (cryopump, temperature measurement and control, cold head heating, protection against heat radiation) are also described. The baking system and measuring value registration are presented. Results obtained during the commissioning phase are given.
