Fifth epoch Doppler imaging observations of AR Lacertae, 1. Simultaneous x-ray and ultraviolet observations of flares on RS CVn stars, 2

Two observing programs (NASA/IUE) were supported with this grant: (1) 'Fifth Epoch Doppler Imaging Observations of AR Lacertae' involved continuous coverage of the IUE satellite for approximately 5 days in December 1991. The purpose was to map the atmospheric structure of AR Lac in three dimensions, using Doppler imaging of different diagnostics to map the spatial structure at various atmospheric levels; and (2) 'Simultaneous X-Ray and Ultraviolet Observations of Flares on RS CVn Stars' which involved coordinated observations in August 1989 between IUE and the GINGA satellite, as well as ground-based observatories. The flare observed (in both ultraviolet and x-ray) was the first from this system. A list of publications from this grant is attached.
