Research handling tests on the Lockheed 12A by Morgan and Birch1 (1938) revealed that, although the elevator was aerodynamicallv unbalanced, it was light. It .was decided to investigate the matter further.n(i) Measurement of the tailplane and elevator constants a2, b1,b2,and b3 in flight.n(ii) Calculation of the response of the aircraft in pitch to instantaneous and gradual elevator movement, and of the effect of this response on stick force.
