Fluid Management Plan for the Project Shoal Area, Off-sites Subproject, CAU 447,211 Revision 0 (with Record of Technical Change No. 1, 2, and 3)

The U.S. Department of Energy, Nevada Operations Office (DOE/NV) has initiated211u001ethe Off-Site Project to characterize the hazards posed to human health and the 211u001eenvironment as a result of underground nuclear testing activities at facilities 211u001eother than the Nevada Test Site (NTS). The Project Shoal Area (PSA) is one of the 211u001eOff-Sites Project areas located off the NTS, but within the state of Nevada. The 211u001ePSA is located approximately 48 kilometers (30 miles) southeast of Fallon, 211u001eNevada. Four wells were drilled at the PSA in 1996 as part of the site 211u001einvestigation administered through the Federal Facility Agreement and Consent 211u001eOrder (FFACO) (1996). The hydrogeologic data gathered from these wells was used 211u001eto support the groundwater flow and contaminant transport modeling of the PSA. 211u001eHowever, the subsequent evaluation of the groundwater model concluded that 211u001efurther delineation of the subsurface was required to reduce uncertainties in the 211u001emodel. In accordance with the FFACO, an addendum to the Corrective Action 211u001eInvestigation Plan (CAIP) for the proposed PSA subsurface investigation, 211u001eCorrective Action Unit 447, was developed. The addendum proposed the drilling and 211u001econstruction of four additional wells and the conduct of hydrologic testing at 211u001ethe PSA. This Fluid Management Plan (FMP) provides guidance for the management of 211u001efluids generated from the well construction and testing activities at the PSA.
