PROCESSING LEACH SOLUTIONS FROM PYROSULFATE FUSIONS OF SALVAGE RESIDUES FOR THE RECOVERY OF TUBALLOY

Two methods are presented for the elimination of sulfate and second group interferences in the extraction of tuballoy from residues which have been processed by the pyrosulfate fusion method,n1. Sulfate ion is precipitated arid separated as CuSO4 by saturat¬ing the leach solutions with Cu(NO3)2 before extraction with dibutyl carbitol.n2. Tuballoy is separated from second group elements by pre¬cipitation with H2S, and from sulfate by a double precipitation with NaOH prior to dibutyl carbitol extraction,nAdvantages claimed for the first method are:No residue remains to be reworked. No effluent is discarded except the final raffinate. The copper sulfate may be converted to copper nitrate and recycled.
