EFFECT OF CHLORPROMAZINE ON CARDIAC ARRHYTHMIAS INDUCED BY INTRA-CEREBRAL INJECTION OF TRYPTAMINE-STROPHANTHIDIN

Injection of tryptamine-strophanthidin into the third cerebral ventricle of anaesthetized dogs produced cardiac irregularities including sinus tachycardia, shortened P.R and QT intervals, notched inverted Twines, biphasic ST segments, alternating ventricular extra systoles and Droxysmal ventricular tachycardia at high doses and typical digitalis bradycardia and ST segment depression at low doses. The higher dose3 produced typical digitalis changes in the electrocardiogram upon intravenous injection, but the electrocardiogram became normal within 8 minutes.
