Organic matter is destroyed and the inorganic residue is dissolved in dilute nitric acid. After adjustment of pH to 2'8. any bismuth present is extracted as the dithizonate;the pH is adjusted to 80 and lead is extracted as the dithi¬zonate in chloroform and determined absorptiometrically.
