DEVELOPMENT OF PELLETIZATION PROCEDURE FOR UO2 PELLETS FOR YANKEE CORE I

Progress in simplification of UO2 pelletization is described, and raw material and product specifications are given. Also reported are the results of investigations of powder properties and their correlation with powder behavior, methods of repelletizing scrap pellets, methods of preparing press feed, attempts at shrinkage and hour-glassing control, investigations to reduce pellet costs and improve pellet density, more rapid means of determining pellet density, recommendations for packaging of UO2 pellets, and miscellaneous subjects such as the preparation of stable water suspensions of UO2, the blending of enrichments, and some data on the water corrosion resistance of UO2 pellets.
