These were (1) the significance and value of the accumulated data and (2) the development of a research program which would be productive of information useful for de¬sign purposes. In relation to the latter, it was recognized that the property which appears to be most affected by radiation exposure, namely, ductility, is one of the phenomena which is still controversial when related to pressure-vessel design. Proper interpretation of radiation damage data is dependent upon a much better understanding of the effect of ductility on pres¬sure-vessel service. Attention was also directed to the fact that no paper presented at the conference contained exact information relative to the flux to which various parts of the power reactor would be exposed in service (this information is needed for all proposed reactor types).
