To meet this power requirement, a nuclear power generating plant was selected, consisting of a 40 mwt, single loop, pressurized water re actor and one 10,820 kw (gross) turbine-generator. Stand-by power generating facilities are not required.nStudies indicated that the most suitable type of nuclear reactor for the Korean barge mounted nuclear power plant would be a single loop pressurized water reactor of approximately 40 mwt (Section III-B).nFor cost comparison purposes, a conventional power plant was selected, consisting of five heavy duty diesel engine generators, rated, at 2,500 kw each.nFor each plant, two types of mountings were analyzed; a new hull of optimum configuration, and a vessel of suitable characteristics from the laid-up fleet. Cost comparisons were made for constructing new hulls and for converting vessels from the laid-up fleet. Estimates made of capital and maintenance costs over a 20-year period favored the use of converted vessels for both the nuclear and conventional power plants.
