An appraisal of the numerical analysis differencing methods employed in the Bettis MIM and ART thermal transients pro¬grams is described. The evaluations are primarily conducted by the analysis of certain crucial frequency responses which characterize the differencing techniques. Transient data is also presented to demonstrate the correlation between the frequency and time domain behavior. The merits of the MIM system relative to the ART system as measured by frequency response criteria are demonstrated, MOO76, a Philco 2000 FORTRAN-ALTAC program designed to compute the pertinent transient and frequency data is described in detail. The applicability of the MOO76 program to other differencing tests and to reactor stability studies is indicated.
