摘要

In this paper we turn to a detailed study of the problem of closing, trying to obtain suitable expressions for the primary current and the magnetic flux. Unfortunately, in this case the method of Part 3 seems to be excluded on account of numerical complications (as to the expansion theorem solution see the remark following eq. (119) in Part 3;as to the power series solution, given by eq. (124), this solution can only be used for extremely small values of /, and further terms of the series are difficult to obtain, as they require a better approximation of the quantityη2 than the one given by (72)).nA new approach is necessary. In the following it will be shown that on closing sufficiently accurate solutions can be obtained by the method of replacing the eddy current paths by an equivalent winding.
