A SURVEY OF BLOOD COUNT DATA FROM NEW ENTRANTS BETWEEN THE YEARS 1949 AND I960

A survey has been made of haemoglobin and white cell count levels based on the data from haematological investigations made on new entrants between the years 1949 and 1960.nThe data has been analysed according to age, sex and season of the year and the results have been compared with those of other workers.nConsideration has been given to the range of normal values, and whilst it appears that those in use at A.E.R.E. are in reasonable agreement with experimental findings for most of the components of the count, the standard lower limit of normal for the neutrophil count is considerably higher than would be expected from the 95% range of the experimental data.nIt is suggested that the normal range for the neutrophil count should be extended from 2500 - 7500 to 2000 - 7500 cells per cmm.
