FABRICATION OF URANIUM MONOCARBIDE FUEL ELEMENTS FOR HALLAM NUCLEAR POWER FACILITY EXPONENTIAL EXPERIMENTS

Six uranium monocarbide fuel elements were required for an exponential experiment to provide physics data for the second core loading of the Hallam Nuclear Power Facility. The fuel slugs were fabricated from commercially produced UC feed material by a bottom pour skull casting process. Six 8-rod UC elements, each 5-1/2 ft long, were fabricated.
