SOME OBSERVATIONS ON RARE EARTH SALTS OF TRICARBALLYLIC-ACID (PROPANE- 1,2, 3-TRICARBOXYLIC ACID). HYDRATION AND SOLU¬BILITY OF THE COMPOUNDS

Rare earth tricarballylates were prepared by interaction of rare earth chlorides and an equivalent amount of the di- or trisodium salt of tricarballylic acid. Rare earth tricarballylates precipitate immed¬iately in cold. These were found to be very insoluble. Except for the lan¬thanum species, all the rare earth compounds including yttrium tricarballylate were found to have a hydration number of four. Lanthanum alone was found to form a pent hydrate.
