摘要

Generally gamma uranium-molybdenum binary alloys possess excellent mechanical and corrosion properties with the exception of their great sus1 -3 acceptability to stress-cracking. When subjected to static or low-strainrate loading in an environment containing oxygen, these alloys fail in a brittle 4 manners. Earlier reports indicated that improved properties were impacted by small additions of titanium in the range of 0.50 to 1.00 w/o to an 8 w/o molybdenum-uranium alloy. However, several instances of delayed cracking in severely cold-worked alloys of this composition prompted a closer investigation of the stress-cracking tendency of this alloy.nWe received from the Watertown Arsenal several large samples of the ternary alloy, U-8 w/o Mo-0.50 w/o Ti in the form of a hot gamma extrusion. This note reports the information that we obtained from a study of the stresscracking properties of this alloy.
