It was the intention of the organisers of this symposium to remedy this defect and by having a two-day programme they hoped that there would be as much time for informal discussion as for the formal presentation of papers. Although it was the original inten¬tion that the meeting should be restricted to participants from the U.K., the Committee were pleased to note that eventually five other European countries were represented.nThis report contains preprints of the papers presented at this Symposium, together with an edited summary of the discussion arising from the papers.
