ENGINEERING AND METALLURGICAL EVALUATION OF THE YANKEE CORE SPENT FUEL

The Engineering and Metallurgical Evaluation of spent fuel from Core I of the Yankee Reactor was a portion of the Yankee Core Evaluation Program. The general purposes of the evaluation were to confirm the suitability of the design and materials used, to determine the irradiation stability of the core components, and to compare predicted with actual performance. Sixteen fuel assemblies were subjected to visual and dimensional examinations and 71 fuel rods from these assemblies were subjected to various visual, dimensional, and metallographic examinations, and mechanical property tests.
