A preliminary design study and cost estimate were made for an integrated processing plant to continuously treat;irradiated LiF-BeF2-ThF4-UF4 fuel salt from a 1000-MW(e)single-fluid, molten-salt breeder reactor. The salt is treated by the fluorination—reductive extraction—metal transfer process to recover and recycle uranium and carrier salt, to isolate 333Pa for decay, and to concentrate fis¬sion products in waste media. For a plant that processes the active inventory (1683 ft3) of reactor fuel on a 10-day cycle the direct costs were estimated to be $21- million and indirect costs were $15> million for a total investment of $36 million.
