The analysis of the radial pressure distribution on the waste-container sleeve has required the development of a number of finite-element models in an r-θ- z coordinate system, therein the stress and displacement fields are assumed to be independent of the angular coordinate θ. In general, the models represent a vertical section through a circular-symmetric room-and-pillar configuration, as shown in Figure 1.1.
