A method is developed for using the 1DFX S transport code results that are obtained from a solution in cylindrical geometry as a surface source for 1DFX calculations in slab geometry. The method involves calcu¬lating the weighted means of the cylindrical fluxes for forward directions with the same direction cosines and using this mean flux as the input for the corresponding slab angular flux with the equivalent direction cosine. The accuracy of the method is demonstrated by calculating slab surface sources from a cylindrical solution at two points in the 300-MW(e) GCFR blanket. The resultant 10-group slab fluxes in the source interval are shown to differ by 2% or less from the corresponding cylindrical fluxes, indicating an accurate transition.
