Startup of the BI-GAS pilot plant facility is in progress at the present time. A life test of two new experimental catalysts was begun. Preliminary results have shown over a 60 percent decrease in activity of one catalyst from its initial high level, the second catalyst has shown very little methanation activity. Methanation PEDU Test No. 26 was conducted. A fourth batch sample of the Homer City catalyst, BCR Lot No. 3926, was used in the test. Evaluation of the results are incomplete. Initial data have been received from Brigham Young University on the joint study of sulfur tolerance of fluid-bed methanation catalysts. There appear to be some significant differences among the samples in terms of their abilities to absorb hydrogen sulfide. Analytical and computer services continued in support of the overall program.
