Recent developments in short-pulse nanosecond technology have enabled the measurement of electromagnetic phenomena (e.g., electromagnetic pulse, EMP) over instantaneous bandwidths of 100:1 or more. Measurements can be made of circuit quantities such as input impedance and effective height, as well as of radar cross section, and surface current. The measurement procedure described herein for the LLL Transient Electromagnetics Measurement Facility (Range) is being used to validate computer codes for EMP coupling and to develop a data base for canonical problems whose numerical solutions are impractical or impossible to obtain.
