The rapid expansion of computer applications in nuclear medicine has thrust persons with little or no formal instruction in computer science into computer-related positions- This has provided the field with a source of new ideas and fresh enthusiasm, uncontaminated by the opinions and prejudices acquired after being associated with a discipline for extended periods of time.nHowever, due to the inability of the published literature to maintain any semblance of currency in a field of such rapid growth, much of this fresh talent has been wasted on the redevelopment of procedures and algorithms already well-known and tested elsewhere.
