Experiences with Vacuum Type Air-Driven Centrifuge for Use in Short Nuclear Lifetime Measurements

The design, construction and performance of an improved vacuum type air-driven centrifuge having rotors of various material and radii are discusses. The centrifuge rotor is self-balancing and with the titanium rotors of 19 cm in diamter tip velocities upto 1.44 x 10 exp 5 cms/sec have been achieved. The apparatus has been built for gamma ray resonance scattering studies and it is hoped to extend by about 25% the energy range of levels accessible by the rotor technique.
