摘要

This report considers the design and economic feasibility of a large-scale open pit anthracite mine in one Wabash Valley to the west of Tamaqua. The mine property would encompass some 2,750 acres, almost the entire area of a narrow valley that lies between Tamaqua and Tuscarora. This valley has been previously deep and strip mined and is, for the most part, unused. However, the proposed operation would en¬tail the relocation of approximately 26 families from the settlements of Reevesdale and Newkirk and the resiting of a four mile portion of US 209.nThe operation has been designed to mine the Llewellyn Series from the Orchard through the Buck Mountain seams to produce 3 million tons of clean coal annually for some 40 years from estimated mineable reserves of 126 x 106 tons. Reserve data was obtained from projections provided by USGS.
