Effect of Leaf Nitrogen Content on CO sub 2 Exchange in a Number of Salix Clones

The intention of this study was to measure CO sub 2 exchange of a number of Salix plants with controlled relative growth rates and associated nitrogen content. This means that, from regressions photosynthetic parameters on leaf nitrogen content, clonal differences in photosynthetic rate at a given nitrogen status can be evaluated. Since the set of clones studied is known to include a number for which a rather wide range (although limited quantity) of field production data is available from the one site, the possibility exists of relating clonal differences in CO sub 2 exchange parameters at a chosen nitrogen status to measured differences in field production.
