摘要

The effects of hydrogen content and strain rate on the tensile properties of a uranium-0.74 weight percent titanium (U-0.74Ti) alloy were determined. Hydrogen embrittlement of the U-0.74Ti alloy occurred below 1 wppm H sub 2 in specimens tested at 10 exp -4 s exp -1 . At a higher strain rate of 1 s exp -1 , however, the alloy experienced a much less embrittling effect out to approximately 8 wppm H sub 2 . Hydrogen content in the alloy did not affect properties other than elongation and reduction-in-area. Strength properties were increased by the higher strain rate. A second alloy of U-0.74Ti with increased iron content (from 20 to 50 wppM) was also tested at the high strain rate for the effect of hydrogen content on tensile properties. No differences in properties could be detected in the high strain rate results due to iron content. (ERA citation 81:025917)
