摘要

Two intermediate-scale tests were performed to compare the behavior of calcite and dolomite aggregate concretes when attacked by molten sodium. The tests were performed as part of an interlaboratory comparison between Sandia National Laboratories and Hanford Engineering Development Laboratories. The results show that both concretes exhibit similar exothermic reactions with molten sodium. The large difference in reaction vigor suggested by thermodynamic considerations of CO2 release from calcite and dolomite was not realized. The major chemical reactions of importance are Na + H2O + limestone yields Na2CO3 + CaO + MgO + H2 and Na + H2O yields NaOH + 1/2H2.
